TOURNAMENT FORMATS
Shown below are numerous tournament formats. Designing a tournament that is fun and memorable is part of what we do at Ultimate Golf Productions. Some of the formats are familiar; however, we recommend tournaments change each year to allow for variety. Also, ask about contests* within events, such as closest to the pin, longest drive, longest put made, hole in one, etc. We have a lot of exciting ways to have these 'extra' events that are not so 'common.' Check these out and see what would work best for your event!

MEDAL PLAY (INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY)
Players compete against all other players. Use of handicaps is optional. The player with the lowest score, or lowest net score if using handicaps, wins. Second lowest score (or net) wins 2nd place, third lowest score (or net) wins 3rd, etc.
FLIGHT COMPETITION
"Flights" may be used for individual stroke play competition. Flights provide equitable competition between players with comparable handicaps. All players are flighted using the Stroke Index for that course, from the lowest stroke index to the highest. The total number of players in the tournament determines the number of flights. The help maintain equitable competition, flights may vary in size by two or three players in some tournaments. Flights can be determined before the tournament or afterwards depending on scores (i.e. 72 Players = four flights (1-18 - championship; 19-36 - 1st flight; 37-54 - 2nd flight; and 55-72 - 3rd flight)) 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded for each flight. Flights can also be used in Team Play formats based on the same logic.
MODIFIED STABLEFORD (INDIVIDUAL STROKE PLAY)
A variation of Medal Play, with or without flights, but hole-by-hole scoring is on a point system. A Double Eagle = 8 points, Eagle = 5 points, Birdie = 2 points, Par = 0 points, Bogie = minus 1 point, Double Bogie or more = minus 4 points. If handicaps are allowed, then the scores will be Net scores. The player with the highest point total wins. Second highest point total wins 2nd place, etc. Play is kept at a good pace because the ball is picked up after a score of bogie is not obtained.
TEAM COMPETITION
The total number of players and teams in the tournament will determine the number of flights, either one, two or three flights. You can form your own 2 Player or 4 Player teams. Individual players will be randomly drawn and placed on a team with other individuals based on handicaps as determined by the Tournament Director.

Teams may play iwth a spread of less than 7 strokes but their team handicap spread must be adjusted to 7 (example: Player A's handicap is 4 and Player B's handicap is 5, which results in a deficit of 6 strokes to meet the minimum 7 stroke spread.
